Make it Fashion!
23rd February, 2024
We'd rather be nowhere else than our favourite fashion cities this time of the year, as London, Paris, Milan and New York come alive with serious style. From the front row to the sidewalk we are obsessed with what people are wearing, and how we can translate those fits into our every day. We spoke with FoS head of buying, Catriona Macleod, in between shows at London Fashion Week to get the steer on how she dresses for a month of shows, exclusive parties and buying appointments. This is the definitive starting point for your fashion-editor approved new season wardrobe, just in time for spring.
Fos: Hi Cat, you're looking amazing today! Fashion Month is in full swing. How are you finding it? What are your dressing rules?
Catriona: "The shows are a place where I let my style dreams really play out. Whether that's how I dress or the pieces that really sing to me from the runway. I like to have fun and push the boundaries. It's always such a joy to see how designers have done this too in their own collections".
FoS: How do you decide what to pack? Do you have shades you go to time and again?
Catriona: "You can never go wrong with a black ensemble. I've been living in Dion Lee's new season pieces, they are so chic and impeccably cut".
FoS: We are obsessed with some of the accessories we have seen on the front row. How do you choose which of your own bags are lucky enough to come with you on your Fashion Week travels?
Catriona: "For me, accessorising is such a key part of getting dressed up for fashion week. Sometimes a whole look is based around an incredible bag – such as a jewel entrusted design from Rosantica or something more structured like Wandler's Oscar Baguette handbag, which I've spied a few times already on the front row".
FoS: We will never tire of seeing great denim at fashion week. How are you wearing yours?
Catriona: "Denim is a fashion week go-to. But now's the time to dress it up. I'll be living in SLVRLAKE denim with boxy tailoring or an uber dressy top to contrast. Blumarine's Satin Blouse works as perfectly for the front row as it does for a fashionable dinner and Nanushka's Petra Tank Top has beautiful draping that feels special and timeless in black".
FoS: You must get invited to a host of parties. What do you pack to wear?
Catriona: "I always select one wow dress (ok, maybe three) for the season. This needs to be a piece that I can easily change into, will look as good with heels as it will sneakers, and is also great for running for taxi's in. These rules work just as well for normal life as fashion week! I'm fixated on this body-hugging Coperni Flower Gown, which I think would look incredible on all skin tones, and also Nanushka's Monogram Long-Sleeved Dress – which is guaranteed to get compliments."
