Destination Sunshine

In need of a winter sun fix? Whether beach, safari or something in between, these are our picks of what to pack.

Something we can all agree on in the Fabric of Society office is that there’s few things more fun than curating the perfect holiday wardrobe. Where you’re heading will influence your packing choices too – bohemian, hedonistic feeling islands will call for colour, print and texture, on the other hand, cities align themselves to a more muted colour palette and refined silhouettes. But one thing is for certain, your holiday wardrobe is a refined and thoughtful edit of the most ‘you’ pieces – the best bits that really show what your style personality is when you’re free to dress for leisure rather than obligations like work and working out.

First stop is naturally swim wear, and now is the perfect moment to remind ourselves of our recent interview with Swimwear designer (and supermodel) Devon Windsor. As someone who has travelled the world, how many swim suits did she recommend taking on a trip? “For a week-long trip, I’d say 5-6 swimsuits. Enough to rotate, mix and match, and always have something dry, but not so many that you’re over packing. And of course… a couple of cover-ups to pull the looks together”, was her advice. Try for some variation in the colours too – too many failsafe monochrome looks and you’ll end up feeling like you’ve worn the same piece all week… and that’s no fun! Seek out multi-tasking swimwear too – we are obsessed with Oséree’s shimmering swimwear which effortlessly works as evening wear too. For a more minimalist aesthetic, Hunza G and Jade swim are natural go-tos  – perfect for mixing and matching shades.

For those heading to the city, seek out matching sets that stand out. For relaxed day time pieces – that’ll also be perfect for travelling in – look to Aya Muse and Citizens of Humanity. Pale cream and white will keep you cool, enhance your tan and boost your summer-seeking mood too. When night falls, sets from Simkhai’s new uber versatile collection are a perfect choice – we are fighting over the brand’s sculptural and incredibly flattering gold top and matching skirt. Equally made for city nights, Renaissance Renaissance and ROTATE Birger Christensen, both new brands arriving on Fabric of Society this season, bring an abundance of glamour – from sparkling sequins the colour of a starry night sky, to embellished midi skirts that can be dressed up or down.

Right now, we are turning to Naghedi totes for the beach and beyond – their neutral shades perfectly complementing swimwear and their craftsmanship and details ideal for pairing with eveningwear. But for a real showstopper accessory, Magda Butrym’s Devana bag is as close to perfection as you can get.
