Golden Hour with Devon Windsor
9th December, 2025
As we launch swim and beach wear on to Fabric of Society, who better to talk to than Devon Windsor, whose inspiring, day-dream inducing resortwear brand is rightly so on most people’s dream desert island packing list. Harnessing her first-hand knowledge of what makes truly great swimwear (having modelled for the likes of Chanel, Dior and Stella McCartney) it’s no wonder her label has gone from strength to strength. Discover more about what’s inspired her new collection and how she packs for her own ultimate getaways.
Fabric of Society: Hi Devon, great to speak with you! So, your swimwear brand is now in its 6th year. What are the key lessons you’ve learnt over those years and how do you feel about where the brand is now?
Devon Windsor: “It’s honestly so surreal to look back and realize we’re already in year six. I’ve learned so much — from the importance of listening to our customer, to understanding production timelines, to trusting my instincts creatively. One of the biggest lessons has been finding the balance between staying true to the brand’s DNA while still evolving each season.
I’m really proud of where the brand is now. What started as a swimwear label has naturally expanded into more of a full resort-wear lifestyle brand, and that growth has felt very organic. The quality, the fits, and the storytelling feel stronger than ever, and I’m excited for what’s next.”
FoS: Please can you delve more into the inspiration behind your Resort ’26 collection and some of the key looks or design features that bring this collection to life?
Devon Windsor: “Resort ’26 was inspired by this idea of effortless luxury — pieces that feel elevated yet wearable for every kind of warm-weather escape. I was really drawn to textures this season, from crochet-inspired details to our new fishbone knits, which add dimension without feeling heavy.
The color palette is soft but still statement-making — think sun-washed neutrals, sea-glass blues, and a few unexpected pops. You’ll see a lot of sculptural lines and silhouettes that transition seamlessly from beach to night. It’s a collection designed to feel timeless but still exciting.”
FoS: What’s your favourite piece from the collection?
Devon Windsor: “I love our new fishbone knit group — the colors are gorgeous and super unique. It’s one of those fabrications you don’t see everywhere, and it drapes beautifully on the body.”
FoS: Where do you go or how do you begin to draw inspiration for a new collection? Do you imagine a particular place when you are designing?
Devon Windsor: “I always start with a mood or a destination in mind. Travel is a huge source of inspiration for me — the architecture, colors, textures, and even the energy of a place. I build a world first, then design into that world. Sometimes it’s a specific beach town I’ve visited, sometimes it’s more of a fantasy location. But I always picture where the woman wearing DW is going, how she feels, and what pieces would elevate that experience.”
FoS: Where is the ultimate Devon Windsor swim location?
Devon Windsor: “Give me anywhere with clear blue water, soft sand, and that warm, golden light — but if I had to choose, I’d say St. Barths or somewhere along the Mediterranean. Those landscapes always feel like the perfect backdrop for our pieces and really capture the spirit of the brand.”
FoS: Can you explain more about the fabrics you use and where your pieces are made?
Devon Windsor: “Fabric is everything in swimwear. We love using unique, elevated materials like French jacquards and textured knits. Most of our fabrics come from Brazil, Italy, and France, where the mills are known for their strength, color longevity, and beautiful hand feel.
FoS: Swimwear styles have shifted alongside conversations about sizing and body confidence. How has this affected your design approach?
Devon Windsor: “It’s been amazing to see the shift toward body confidence and more inclusive attitudes. It’s given me a lot of freedom to design pieces that feel bold, playful, and individual. Women are embracing their bodies more, and that allows us to push silhouettes, add more texture, and create styles that feel fashion-forward rather than “safe.”
Fit will always be our top priority, but now there’s room for more personality in the designs — and I love that.”
FoS: What’s the one failsafe swim shape that everyone should own and why?
Devon Windsor: “A classic triangle top will never go out of style. It works on so many body types, packs easily, ties multiple ways, and always looks chic. If you’re going on a trip and can only bring one piece, that’s the one.”
FoS: What do you think are the main misconceptions about swimwear and how to wear it? And what’s the vacation styling mistake you see most often?
Devon Windsor: “I think the biggest misconception is that swim has to be super minimal or that you need the “perfect” body to wear certain cuts. Swim is fashion — you can play with textures, layers, and accessories to make it feel personal.
The mistake I see most often is people under-styling or over-packing the wrong pieces. Bring swim that can mix and match and cover-ups that actually elevate the look rather than hide it. A great pareo or a chic oversized shirt goes a long way.”
FoS: In your expert opinion, what’s the definitive number of swimwear pieces we should take on our next holiday?
Devon Windsor: “For a week-long trip, I’d say 5-6 swimsuits. Enough to rotate, mix and match, and always have something dry, but not so many that you’re overpacking. And of course… a couple of cover-ups to pull the looks together.”
