How to master modern boho

Romantic and easy to wear, bohemian is back with a contemporary catch. Here’s our pick of the seasons’ must have styles.

There have been signs; floating fabric on the runway, a smattering of undone hair and lash-skimming fringes perfectly reminiscent of the carefree 60s. Yes, boho has affectionately made its way back onto our trend radar, effortlessly cutting through the sea of minimalist quiet luxury pieces. But how? And why now?

It’s all to do with ease. Bohemian designs have always looked good, perhaps even better, with movement – aka real life. Whilst pared-back tailoring and minimalist trends stand out when served up in a precision pose, boho gets a boost with a little wind in the hair, a dash across the side walk to jump into a taxi. At the shows, boho heavyweights Stella McCartney and Chloe showcased what they are best at, selling the boho lifestyle – think sweeping hemlines, frills, lace and playful fringing. The trend was also mirrored at Valentino, Khaite and Proenza Schouler to name a few.

The seasons return to boho seems to have grown up too. Cuts are considered, never scruffy. Detail is delicate and precise rather than overdone. Boho has always been a trend that divides, for some the pasts incarnations reliance on details was a little too much to take in but as this season shows, this is modern boho. Modern boho is a trend even the most committed minimalists can get on board with.

Visiting a host of new in styles on Fabric of Society, we are obsessed with Blumarine’s floaty blouse and pants set as well as their Grecian-inspired gown. Utility-inspired fashion has always played a part in the boho trend too, adding a welcomed edge to boho’s whimsical charm. Published By’s new season bag collection carries this attitude perfectly. Fringing detail is never far away from the boho trend, and Taller Marmo is our go to for an elegant grown-up take on the trend – their pastel blue Atlanta dress being a stand out choice. But remember, this is a modern interpretation. Less is more, so let each item speak for itself. And with designs this chic, that’s easy.
